Green Devonport Plan

This is a unified vision to improve Devonport for nature and people, co-designed by Green Communities, Green Devonport Partnership, and local residents. The document is made up of two reports compiling the feedback and ideas from the Devonport community. Click here to read the Plan.

Mount Wise Neighbourhood Centre

We work closely with our Green Communities partners, Zebra Collective, who are based at the Mount Wise Neighbourhood Centre. We regularly head over to Mount Wise Youth Club to meet up with the young people and give them opportunities to get involved in nature-friendly activities, as well as join the centre's gardening group. Recently the community garden was transformed through a collaboration with Zebra, Open University, Green Communities and Plymouth & South Devon Community Forest - find out more in our case studies.

Mount Wise Park

We are working alongside local residents and Nature Recovery (Plymouth Natural Grid) team to monitor and improve the management of Mount Wise Park, which is a unique and important site for nature in Plymouth. We are supporting species like the Autumn Lady's-tresses orchids remain and increase on site.

Nearby the park, we worked with staff and residents at Hamoaze House to create a micro tree nursery - somewhere to grow and tend seeds and trees until they grow big enough to be planted across the wider community. Click here to read the case study.

Marlborough Street Planters

We work closely with the Green Devonport Partnership and local residents on many projects - all of them with the focus of making their local spaces better for wildlife and for people. One of our earliest examples is the Marlborough Street planters which were in need of some TLC. Together, we gave them a makeover to make them bloom and brighten people's days! Find out more in this Green Communities case study.

Devonport Park

We work with many of the community groups in Devonport Park! To date, we have supported tree planting at Stiltskin's Soap Box Theatre and Headway alongside Plymouth & South Devon Community Forest, and we are currently working with Friends of Devonport Park to develop a plan for planting trees in the long term. We have also teamed up with groups like Headway, to provide nature connection sessions with their clients, promoting getting outdoors and wellbeing.

We also worked with Food Plymouth's Generous Earth team to setup community composting places across Green Communities areas, including Devonport Park. We regularly support composting activities, and have linked up with the local cafes to support with donating their coffee grounds for the composting ridans!

And more!

We continue to join existing community activities and run nature-based crafts and improvements across Devonport. We are also exploring working towards Morice Town and Stonehouse, teaming up with existing projects to help make these places even better for people and wildlife!

Meet the team!
